Buttercups and Cannon: Day 9-Nature Journaling at the Stone Bridge

Buttercups and Cannon: Day 9-Nature Journaling at the Stone Bridge

Tuesday, May 9, 2017 After a brief introduction to supplies on hand (including my favorite watercolor pencils) we dispersed a bit to find our own spot to reflect and record our impressions.  The history of this place provides an interesting background for our journaling.  Soldiers, […]

Women and Writing in Golden

Hugs, laughter, and excitement started the Women Writing the West 2014 conference in Golden, Colorado this past weekend. I am still letting the memories settle into my heart and head as I unpack. What ambience we had – the backdrop of the Rocky Mountain foothills, […]

Where Does Your Writing Take You?

Where Does Your Writing Take You?

January 10, 2014

Like me, I’m sure you have seen colorful posters in libraries and schools that proclaim reading can take one to exotic places and introduce one to fascinating characters. If you are a reader, I’m certain you would agree. But consider for a moment the authors who aim to fulfill that promise. What about their own journeys?

After I began writing, I realized that an author embarks on an adventure as well, that begins before the keys are struck or the pen moves across the paper and continues long after the pages are bound together.

Sometimes the journey leads us inward to explore our own mind and heart. Other times we set out to explore locations – investigating characters, settings, and facts. As we research, we travel over miles of information in books, journals, maps, and letters. As we write, our words take us across the page and out into the world, picking up passengers, learning new languages, gaining new perspectives that guide us to our next project.

I have come a long way, had many experiences, and am excited to think of the many adventures and stories that lie ahead. I can’t wait!

Wherever your writing leads you, take it all in and enjoy the trip!
